Recombobulation: The act of recombobulating; putting back into order; removing confusion. The artists in this exhibit use found objects and other ephemera to create artistic treasures. They create a narrative by strategically arranging objects and allowing a specifically determined amount of original patina, shape, texture or inherent iconography to provide the plot for their story. Artists included in this exhibit are: Deborah Jang, Mark Friday, Michelle Lamb, Jimmy Descant, Leigh Cabell, Floyd Tunson, Sue Blosten and Kelton Osborn.
Tomás Doncker & The True Groove All-Stars present Endangered, a live music and multi-sensory installation performance steeped in 21st Century Psychedelic Soul. "My work reflects my journey to acquire knowledge. Along the way I have become a Janus. Looking at life from one direction, I see the terror of chaos, man's inhumanity to man, mortality, and the vastness of the unknown. From another direction, the human condition seems like a magnificent, orderly evolution of extraordinary beauty. The totality of my work reflects my quest to comprehend and express these forces and their interconnectedness. Even my non-objective painting is based on this dialectic, where uninhibited strokes play against geometric order."
-Floyd Tunson
"Floyd D. Tunson declares in his artist statement: "I have become a Janus." Depicted with two faces - one looking to the future and one to the past - Janus is, in ancient Roman myth, the god of beginnings, transitions, time, duality, passages and endings. A new body of work by this critically acclaimed, multi-dimensional and influential artist auspiciously inaugurates GOCA's new Marie Walsh Sharpe Gallery of Contemporary Art site, in the Ent Center for the Arts."
